Wood product moisture is important in all phases of board production.  Measuring wood product moisture at the dryer inlet allows the operator to adjust the feed rate or the dryer temperature.  This helps prevent flash fires in the dryer and optimize fuel costs.  The measurement of moisture at the dryer outlet allows feedback control to achieve moisture setpoint prior to resin addition or storage.

At the blender, resin addition is based upon the dry weight wood product moisture.  This moisture measurement ensures product quality and optimizes expensive resin addition.  Measuring moisture at the blender output allows quick alarms for blocked nozzles and board blow up.  The forming line needs wood product moisture measurement as a final QC check and to divert out-of-spec board product.
